On April 11th, 2019, the first Symposium on Mongolian Language Resources and Sharing Technology was held in Hohhot. Zhou Xiaomei, Deputy Director of the Department of Education, Science and Technology of National Ethnic Affairs Commission of China, Prof. Choijinzhab, well-known expert of Inner Mongolia University, Prof. BOLD Luvsandorj, academician of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences,Prof. Yang Erhong, Executive Deputy Director of ACLR, and Prof. Huang Xing, Honorary Researcher of ACLR were present at the Symposium. The Symposium was initiated by Prof. Nasun-urtu, Inner Mongolia University, and co-hosted by Inner Mongolia University and Agricultural Technology Research and Development Laboratory Accommodation of Chinese Academy of Sciences and National Ethnic Affairs Commission.
Prof. Yang Erhong delivereda speech at the opening ceremony. She said that Prof. Nasun-urtu’s team had made remarkable achievements in the construction of Mongolian language and Mongolian-Chinese bilingual resources. The upcoming construction of “Digitalized Platform for Northeast Asian Languages” would greatly contribute to the construction and development of China's language resources. She shared ACLR’s thoughts on the process of language resources construction and expressed the willingness in sharing and cooperation in language resources. She also conveyed Director Li Yuming's sincere congratulations on the opening of the Symposium.
There were 4 invited speeches and 6 session reports. Prof. Huang Xing, Chen Zhuang, Senior Engineer of China Electronics Standardization Institute, Prof.Liu Lianfang, Guangxi Daring E-Commerce Service Co., Ltd., and Prof. Yang Erhong respectively made reports entitled “Interpretation of National Ethnic Language Policy in the New Era”, “Encoding and Standardization of Chinese Minority Characters”, “Southeast Asian Language Characteristics and Processing Technology Progress” and “Protect and Promote the World Language Diversity”. At the request of the organizing committee, Prof. Yang Erhong introduced the birth and main contents of Yuelu Declaration, the enlightenment of Chinese language protection project onYuelu Declaration, and the language resources construction and application in ACLR.
In the session report part, Prof. Nasun-urtu, Prof. Li Miao, Institute of Intelligent Machines, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof. Bai Chengshuang, MIT Center of Mongolian Academy of Social Sciences, Consultant Ha Sihua, Translation Office of the General Office of the Government of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Associate Prof. Hai Yinhua, Mongolian School of Inner Mongolia University, and Doctor Wu Jinxing, Mongolian School of Inner Mongolia University respectively gave talks on “Construction of the Digitalized Platform for Northeast Asian Language Resources”, “Construction and Application of Chinese and Ethnic Language Bilingual Corpus”, “The Current Status and Prospect of Mongolian Language Application Technology”, “Information Construction in Mongolian Government Service”, “General Introduction of Mongolian Language Knowledge Resources Construction” and “General Introduction of Mongolian Language Resources Construction”.
During the meeting, Prof. Yang Erhong and Tian Liepeng, Deputy Director of ACLR hada discussion with Prof. BOLD and Prof. Nasun-urtu on possible cooperation on Mongolian language resources construction, Mongolian language policy and Altai language family research. They agreed to conduct more in-depth exchanges and cooperation around October this year.
