From September 17 to 19, Professor Li Yuming, Director of ACLR, led a team to visit Mongolia. Director Li Yuming and his entourage visited the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Language and Literature of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, the Mongolian Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports, the Mongolian University of Science and Technology, and the Mongolian National Language Policy Committee. They had friendly talks on Mongolian language policy and planning, language resources collection, language digitalization, foreign language education, scientific research exchanges, personnel training as well as international cooperation and exchanges.
On the morning of September 18th, ACLR and the Northeast Asia Language Resources Center of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Regionformally signed a MOUwith the Mongolian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Language and Literature of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences. The cooperation of the two parties aims to build a large database based on the Mongolian language resources in Mongolia withactive assistance from China.A laboratory would be builtwith advanced technologies of modern equipments.. The cooperation mainly includes the establishment of the Mongolian national corpus, the study of Altaic language family and Mongolian literature, the exchange of experts, and the sharing of language resources and research results. The laboratory is intended to be established at the Institute of Language and Literature of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences.
During the visit to the Mongolian Ministry of Education, Culture, Scienceand Sports, Director Li Yuming and the Delegationwere warmly received by MUNKHBAT Sonomdarjaa, the Director of the Department of Science and Technology Policy. Director MUNKHBAT Sonomdarjaa said that the Mongolian Government would fully support the smooth progress of the collaborative project and he hoped the project wouldyield fruitful results in the future.
The Delegation then visitedthe School of Foreign Languagesof Mongolia University of Science and Technology. Director Li Yuming and Dean Baasanjav SOYOLSUREN reached an initialagreement on cooperation in teacher scientific research, student development, and IT construction for foreign language education.
At the Mongolian National Language Policy Committee, Director Li Yumingand Ms. NARANGEREL Nyamkuu, Director of the Administration Office of the Committee, introduced their respective institutions. They had discussions and made preliminary cooperative intentionon national language policy research, teacher training, meeting co-holding, and multilingual translation.
