This resource is the result of ACLR’s research project Methodological Research on Language Identification Theory and Language Statistics.
The project manager is Sun Hongkai, chief expert of ACLR, and Professor of Research Center for Ethnic Minority Languages of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), and Professor Huang Xing, chief expert of ACLR, and the former director of the Research Center for Ethnic Minority Languages of CASS.
The project has built a World Languages Knowledge Base and a World Scripts Knowledge Base
1. World Languages Knowledge Base
The languages of the knowledge base include all the languages of the world with basic attributes such as ISO international standard code, country, population, family, dialect, and scripts, and more than half of them include ontologies such as phonetics, morphology, syntax, vocabulary, and writing systems.
Based on this knowledge base, two monographic studies were carried out on "the language situation of China's neighboring countries" and "the language situation of countries along the Belt and Road", which are currently the most closely related to China's language affairs.
2. World Scripts Knowledge Base
The scripts of the base contain all current scripts in the world with basic attributes such as language writings, country, and script system, as well as those with ontology knowledge such as historical sources, language writings, alphabets, and text samples. The base also includes script sources and types for current language writings, and most pictures of the world scripts and letters graphs in over 600 fonts.
